Tank Pull

Worthy Grand Knights of District 40 -

A very worthy fund raising event is being coordinated through the Msgr. Anthony H. Stein Assmbly 0645 for the benefit of wounded warriors returning from overseas.

The event is a "Tank Pull".  A real US "tank" will be placed on a flatbed truck, and teams of volunteers will do their best to 'pull the tank' as far as they can in a given time slot.

Competing teams can consist of 20 people ... anyone...  athletes... police... firemen... church choirs... company employees... neighborhood organizations... Knights of Columbus Councils.... other fraternal organizations... anyone!

Entrance fee (minimum) is $1,500 per team or higher as your fund raising success may dictate.

More info is available at
www.tankpullkofc.org

All team registrations must be completed by August 1st to insure participation.

The Father Koch Council 6343 has committed to entering a 'team'.

Remember - the team can be anyone - no Knights affiliation is required.  Cops-firemen-local athletes-veterans-men/women in service-Knights-other fraternal organizations- anyone!

I hope your Councils will give consideration to participating by assembling a team to compete in this worthy cause.  Got strong guys in your neighborhood? Bring it on!

Any questions?  Call DD Ray Lill @ 973-472-1756 (Wife Sandra).

Also - in lieu of team participation - other avenues of contributions are encouraged. Call DD Ray Lill for info.

Third Degree Team

Worthy Brothers of District 40:

One of the most endearing charms of our Order are the ceremonials. Guarded like rare treasures, the exemplifications of the Degrees define our brotherhood and illuminate the principles of the Order.

The only thing more rewarding than attending a Degree is participating in one.  For those of you who have attained membership in the 3rd Degree of our Order, you now have a golden opportunity to do just that.

Just recently, I was given permission from our Worthy State Warden, Bruce DeMolli, to establish a new 3rd Degree Team. Because 3rd Degree teams are regional, any 3rd Degree Knight in the district qualifies to participate.  There are many positions that need to be filled. All 3rd Degree brothers are invited to participate in the formation of this team.

I heartily invite you to call me and register to be on the team roster.  We will be establishing a meeting schedule shortly, and all are welcome to attend.  Feel free to call me with general questions.

It is rare, indeed, to have an opportunity to be on the 'ground floor' of a Degree team formation, and I can speak from experience, its a lot of work... but a lot of fun too.  Like anything in life, what you put into something is what you get out of it.  For my part, participating in the exemplifications of our Order is a joy beyond measure.

I can be reached on my Cell Phone at 973-903-6547 or home phone at 973-208-5942.

My email address is:  ejackreilly@msn.com

I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Paterson Federation Scholarship

I received the following information today 1/21/2010 regarding a scholarship that is available from the Paterson Federation. Please distribute this information to your members and publicize it in you church bulletins and newsletters.  If you have any questions, please call me.

From Paterson Federation President Frank Manganelli:

Dear Worthy Grand Knight:

The Paterson Federation has prepared for distribution the application for its partial scholarship for Catholic students to a Catholic high school. It is important that the students graduating from grammar school be aware of the qualifications and deadlines for submitting this application for consideration. Make as many copies as necessary when you contact the parochial and public schools in your area. Applicants need not be sons or daughters of members; they need only to be Catholics. A place on the application is reserved for the signature of their pastor.

If you wish to prepare additional material for publicity, please feel free to do so. The success of the program is contingent upon the interest of the council and the students. Spread the word that the partial scholarship is $1,000 annually for four (4) years, which will be presented to the Catholic high school in the student’s name.

Before the judges review each application, careful preparation will be made to ensure the anonymity of each applicant for utmost objectivity.

For your information, the judges of the contest are experienced educators, both members of the K of C and non-members. Much of the criteria for this scholarship is based on the objective scores in a national test which the students must take to graduate in New Jersey and the student’s performance during his/her years in school. Additional material used for evaluating, however, is a short essay in which the applicant will express his/her ideas about Catholic education and a summary of volunteer work performed for the church and/or the community. This scholarship will be awarded regardless of financial need.

The success of this program is in your hands and its success will redound to your council’s benefit. Please contact those principals, guidance counselors and pastors whom you deem appropriate to afford every eligible student an equal opportunity to win. The money is there for them. They need only apply; the measure of their scholarship will point to the winner.
